RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team earned a five-set win over UT Dallas Friday evening in Richardson.
UT Dallas opened with a five-point run and led by as many as six points in the set. UMHB continued in point-for-point play but another five-point series gave the Comets an 18-7 lead. The set went back to point-for-point play but a three-point run sealed the 25-11 win.
The Comets opened the second set with another lead but UMHB chipped away and eventually pulled ahead with a five-point series. The Cru held the high ground until a five-point run put the Comets on top by one. UMHB evened on the next point and the lead continued to change hands until a kill from
Baylee Mobley and
Raylee Schaffner gave the Cru a 27-25 win.
UT Dallas roared back in the third, cruising to a 9-1 lead before the Cru scored four unanswered points to cut the gap. The set played within three points until a 7-1 run gave the Comets an eight-point margin. UMHB tried to fight back but the Comets stayed on top with a 25-6 win.
Set four played back and forth until Mobley hit a kill to give the Cru a serve and
Caiden Lasala served eight consecutive points to put UMHB up by seven. The Cru held onto the lead, finalizing the set-win with a 4-1 run.
UT Dallas went ahead 7-1 in the fifth set but UMHB did not give up, cutting the gap to five before scoring six unanswered points to take a 10-9 lead. UT Dallas evened at 10 points but a 4-1 run kept the Cru on top. The Comets fought back with a pair of points but a kill from
Kendall Harrington sealed the 15-13 win for the Cru.
Harrington led the Cru with 16 total kills, followed by Mobley with 15. UMHB hit .182 in the match with 55 kills on 170 total attacks. Harrington added 20 assists and 13 digs for a triple-double in the match while Mobley also had a double-double with 14 digs.
Caitlyn Ellenburg led the Cru with 22 assists while
Caiden Lasala was the defensive leader, adding 20 digs.
Dravyn Hurd was the Cru's defensive leader at the net, totaling seven blocks in the contest.
UMHB returns to action on Friday, October 11
th in a 6 p.m. match at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.
