Women’s Soccer ends season as ASC Runners-Up; falls to Hardin-Simmons in title match

ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team ended its 2024 season as the American Southwest Conference Runners-Up, falling to Hardin-Simmons 1-0 in the ASC title game Sunday in Abilene.
 
The first half played scoreless with UMHB outshooting the Cowgirls 7-6 in the frame. UMHB put one shot on goal in the half while HSU put up three, all saves by Emma Edwards.
 
Hardin-Simmons opened the second half with a goal in the 51st minute to go on top. Lexi Templin found the high left portion of the goal off a pass from Gabby Aviles to give the Cowgirls a one-goal lead. HSU maintained the high ground for the duration of the contest, securing its second consecutive ASC title.
 
Trinity Hoffmann led the Cru with five shots in the contest while Morgen Rathmell and Natalie Mason each added four. Rathmell also had a team-high two shots on frame. UMHB totaled 15 total shots in the contest, putting six on goal. The Cru allowed Hardin-Simmons just 16 shots and seven on frame as Emma Edwards made six total saves in the contest.
 
Morgen Rathmell, Allie Angell and Trinity Hoffmann were all named to the American Southwest Conference All-Tournament Team. UMHB advanced to the ASC title game for the fourth consecutive season and seventh time under head coach Barry Elkins. Hardin-Simmons won its 24th overall title and will advance to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament with the league's automatic bid.
