Football names five to D3football.com All-Region teams

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team named five athletes to the D3football.com All-Region 3 teams, released Wednesday. The Cru had two first-team selections, one second-teamer and two third-team honorees.
 
Mason Cavness and Durand Hill were named First Team All-Region 3 Defense.
 
Mason Cavness, a senior defensive tackle from Marathon, finished the regular season ranked top-20 in solo tackles (17) and total tackles (31). Cavness was also fourth in the conference with nine tackles for loss, totaling 22 yards lost in the regular season. He currently has 43 total tackles on the season with 12.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, four quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, one pass breakup and one safety. Cavness was also a First Team All-American Southwest Conference selection this season.
 
Durand Hill, a senior linebacker from Buda, led the conference with three interceptions in the regular season. He also ranked first with two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles on the year. Hill's 30 solo tackles, seven tackles for loss and five passes defended ranked him fifth while his 62 tackles in the regular season placed him in seventh. He currently leads the Cru with 93 total tackles on the season, 51 of them solo. He's added 12 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks with four interceptions and six pass breakups. Hill also has three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles this season and was a First Team All-ASC selection.
 
Offensive linemen Kyle Wente and Eric Teutsch were named Second Team Offense and Third Team Offense, respectively, after both earning First Team All-ASC awards.
 
Kyle Wente, a senior offensive tackle from San Antonio, recorded a 90% grade this year. He started in all nine regular-season games with 11 pancakes and 12 knockdowns. Wente allowed just one sack in more than 500 snaps in the regular season.
 
Eric Teutsch, a sophomore offensive lineman from Canyon Lake, recorded a 95% offensive lineman grade. Teutsch played in eight games with seven pancakes and five knockdowns during the regular season.
 
Samuel Steffe, a junior cornerback from Aledo, was also a First Team All-ASC selection and earned Third Team All-Region 3 Defense. Steffe ranked second in the conference with two interceptions during the regular season. He added a pair of pass breakups, ranking 12th in solo tackles (22) and top-20 in total tackles (29). He currently has 42 tackles in his first season with the Cru, 34 of those solo. Steffe has added three tackles for loss and four pass breakups.
 
All-region  awards are based strictly with regular-season statistics only. This is the third all-region honor for Hill and first for Cavness, Wente, Teutsch and Steffe. UMHB returns to action in the 2024 NCAA Division III Football Playoff Quarterfinals on Saturday, December 14th at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
