Women’s Basketball earns 15-point win against Whitworth

SPOKANE, Wash. – University of Mary-Hardin Baylor women's basketball closed out their trip to Washington with a 64-49 victory against Whitworth University Friday night. The Cru improves to 7-2 on the season, while the Pirates fall to a 3-3 record.
 
The Cru jumped ahead by four points to begin the game after a jumper from Katelen Brooks for two and three made free throws from Karlee Cronk. UMHB held the lead through the entirety of the first quarter, courtesy of Brooks' 11 points scored. Adyson James started the scoring in the second quarter with a layup off an assist from Keziah Bachert who followed with two points of her own.
 
The Pirates didn't cut into the Crusader lead until the third quarter, going on a fourteen-point streak to bring the game within three. Jaycie Brisco ended Whitworth's run with a driving layup to keep UMHB up 43-38. The Pirates then responded again, taking the lead for the first time in the game to make it a 44-43 game. Adyson James, Karlee Cronk, and Rachel Okoye answered with two points each, bringing the score to 49-44 and giving UMHB the upper hand again.
 
Quarter four was a Crusader dominance, jump-starting with a three-pointer from Amillion Fowler, followed by seven more unanswered points from UMHB. Karlee Cronk sealed the victory with a layup and a made free throw to give the Cru a 64-49 win.
 
Karlee Cronk was the leading Crusader with 16 points, going 6-6 on the night, followed by Katelen Brooks who added 13 of her own. Adyson James tacked on a double-double tallying 14 rebounds and 11 points scored.
 
UMHB returns to action in Belton on Thursday, December 17th in a 2:00 PM contest against Wartburg College.
