Stephen Lee named offensive coordinator

BELTON, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor welcomes Stephen Lee back as offensive coordinator, the football program announced Thursday.

Lee served as the Cru's offensive coordinator from 2016-2021, accumulating a 76-2 record with a trio of national titles. UMHB also won seven American Southwest Conference championships during that tenure and led the nation in scoring offense in 2018 with 53.4 points per game.

Coach Lee took over the offensive ranks at Abilene Christian University (DI) in 2022 and helped the Wildcats to a 7-4 record, its most successful season at that point since joining NCAA Division I FCS ranks.

After ACU, Lee anchored the program at Cisco College before joining the staff at Tarleton State University (DI) as the tight end coach. Prior to his initial stint at UMHB, Lee spent five years at West Texas A&M University, where he guided the Buffs' offense to an NCAA Division II record for passing yards (5,544) and a national lead in passing touchdowns (57). The Buffs also produced a Harlon Hill Award runner-up and saw a pair of NCAA postseason berths in addition to a Lone Star Conference Championship.

"We are excited for Coach Lee to join our staff," UMHB Head Coach Larry Harmon said. "We know firsthand the championship mindset he brings and we are happy to welcome him back to Belton."

Lee's coaching stops also include Brenham High School (05-11), Howard Payne University (00-05), Western New Mexico University (99-00) and Irion County High School ('96-99).

Lee is a 1993 graduate of Angelo State University and played four years as a quarterback and fullback for the Rams. He later earned a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Western New Mexico University. He takes over after the departure of Andy Padron earlier this month.

Note: Lee's record and championships accomplishments in this release include the 2016 and 2017 seasons which were later vacated by the NCAA.
