Women's Basketball falls to Texas Lutheran University

SEGUIN, Texas - University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball fell short to Texas Lutheran University in a 77-54 decision Sunday afternoon in Seguin. The Crusaders' record moves to 8-4 on the season while the Bulldogs are now 6-3. 
 
Adyson James opened the game with a layup in the paint to put the Cru on the board first. TLU responded quickly with two three-pointers to take the 6-2 lead, but Jaycie Brisco answered with a three-pointer to cut into the lead. The Bulldogs held the high ground through the majority of the first quarter until James made a layup to knot the game at 16. Another three-pointer from TLU gave the Bulldogs a 19-16 lead to finish the first 10 minutes of play. 
 
After four scoreless possessions to open the second quarter, TLU hit a three-pointer to open up scoring. The game played scoreless for two more minutes until a Keziah Bachert layup added two, making it a 22-18 game. The Bulldogs kept the lead and UMHB could not respond until the 5:45 mark with a three-pointer from Mia Lozoya making it a 26-21 game in favor of TLU. A few free throws and a Keziah Bachert three-pointer rounded out the scoring for the Cru in the second quarter, ending the half with a score of 38-29 Texas Lutheran. 
 
The Bulldogs started the second half with back-to-back scores moving the margin to 42-29. Adyson James hit a jumper at the 7:02 mark followed by a three-pointer from Josie Bruder to cut into the TLU lead, 44-35. The third quarter ended with the Bulldogs up 56-44. 
 
The final quarter was jump-started by the Bulldogs with a three-pointer followed by a layup to make the score 59-44. Four free throws from the Cru towards the end of the match cut into the lead but could not finish the job as TLU finished with a 77-54 victory. 
 
Josie Bruder was the leading Crusader offensively with 11 points, followed by Adyson James who added 10 points along with four rebounds, four steals and one block. Jaycie Brisco also added five rebounds of her own. 
 
UMHB returns to action at the University of St. Thomas (Houston) in a 2:00 PM match on December 31st.
