BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team earned an 80-65 win over Trinity University Wednesday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 5-1 on the season while the Tigers fell to 3-2, both losses to UMHB.
Trinity opened the game with a jumper one minute into action and held the high ground until
Adyson James evened the contest with a jumper at the 7:27 mark. Josie Napoli hit a pair of foul shots to put the Tigers back on top but James evened the contest again with another jumper and gave the Cru the lead with a jumper and ensuing foul shot. The Tigers retook the lead with a three-pointer at the 3:36 mark and held the high ground until
Remi Adeleke hit a shot with three seconds left for a 17-16 Cru margin.
Adeleke opened the second quarter with a pair of foul shots before
Adyson James and
Amillion Fowler both hit jumpers for a 23-16 lead. UMHB shutout the Tigers until the 5:39 mark when Kylie Minter broke the drought with a free throw. UMHB extended the lead to 11 with 4:30 to play in the quarter and maintained a three-possession lead through the majority of the half, going into halftime up 30-22.
Trinity cut the lead the lead to single digits early in the third but UMHB extended it back to doubles and had a 57-50 lead after the third quarter. UMHB outscored the Tigers 23-15 in the fourth, sealing the 80-65 win.
Adyson James led the Cru with 24 points while
Amillion Fowler added 14.
Josie Bruder,
Karlee Cronk,
Remi Adeleke and
Jaycie Brisco each added nine points as UMHB shot 37.0 in the contest. James added 14 rebounds for a double-double on the night while Fowler totaled eight assists and Brisco added five.
The game saw five lead changes with UMHB leading for 33:03 of the contest. The Cru scored 13 points off turnovers with 40 points in the paints and 31 second-chance points.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, December 7
th in a 4 p.m. contest at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
