Women’s Basketball falls on the road at UT Dallas

RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team dropped a 68-60 decision at the University of Texas at Dallas Thursday evening in Richardson. The loss dropped the Cru to 19-3 overall and 11-2 in American Southwest Conference action while the Comets improved to 17-5 overall and 9-4 in league action.
 
Both teams opened the game with jumpers before Alex Bowman hit a three-pointer for the Comets at the 6:56 mark in the first quarter to put UT Dallas on top. Remi Adeleke responded with a jumper for UMHB but Trystan Clark hit a pair of foul shots for another three-point lead from the Comets. The Cru cut the gap to one again before back-to-back field goals from Clark put UTD up by five. UMHB answered again, taking a one-point lead off a layup from Ashley Faux with 43 seconds to play. The Comets quickly regained the high ground off a pair of foul shots but Lauren Baker ended the quarter with a layup to give UMHB a 14-13 lead.
 
Faux hit a jumper to open the second quarter to extend the gap but UT Dallas with a nine-point run to take the margin by five points. Alexis Carmosino stopped the run with a layup at 6:37 before Josie Bruder cut the gap with a layup at 6:06. Clark sparked another seven-point for the Comets and UTD held on, extending the lead to double-digits with 3:11 to play and going into halftime up 37-28.
 
UT Dallas was the first to score in the third quarter with Addy  Self making a layup at 8:59. The quarter played scoreless from there until the 4:17 mark when Clark made another Comet layup for a 41-28 lead. Josie Bruder followed that with a three-pointer at 3:35 to break the Cru's drought. The quarter saw 11 more points scored with a 48-35 UTD lead headed into the final frame.
 
Lauren Baker cut the Comet lead to single-digits at the 6:31 mark, making a pair of free throws. The Comets scored four more points before foul shots from Baker and Arieona Rosborough cut the lead back to eight. Both teams exchanged free throws until the 1:47 mark when Blythe Williams made a layup for UTD. Alexis Carmosino made a jumper with 57 seconds to play to cut the UTD lead to nine but free throws from Williams put the Comets back on top by 11. Baker hit a layup at 00:33 and a three-pointer at 00:21 to cut the gap to eight but the Comets held on for the 68-60 win.
 
 Arieona Rosborough led the Cru with 17 points while Lauren Baker added 14. UMHB shot 28.3 percent as a team with an 88 percent showing from the free throw line. Meagan Johnson led the Cru with seven rebounds while Rosborough put up a team-high four steals.
 
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, February 10th in a 1 p.m. contest at University of the Ozarks in Clarksville. The Cru closes out the regular season with a pair of home games next Thursday and Saturday at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
