LONGVIEW, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team fought back but could not overcome a three-run deficit Thursday in Longview, falling 3-2 at LeTourneau. UMHB dropped to 16-7 on the season and 8-5 in American Southwest Conference action while the Yellow Jackets improved to 10-13 on the year and 4-6 in league play.
LeTourneau took an early lead with a three-RBI home run from Hayden Norris in the bottom of the second inning. UMHB cut into the gap in the fourth inning with a run from
Carson Hagan, scoring on an RBI from
Rhett Grosz. The Cru added another score in the sixth inning with a run from
Kaden deBerardinis to cut the gap to one. UMHB put runners on in the eighth but the Yellow Jackets ended the threat with a double play to keep the lead and game at one.
Hagan, deBerardinis and Bender each led the Cru with two hits Hagan and deBerardinis were the only Crusaders to score a run.
James McGlumphy took the loss on the mound, throwing seven innings with three runs allowed and five strikeouts.
Jacob Haynes pitched one shutout inning in relief, recording a trio of swinging strikeouts in his outing.
UMHB closes the series in a 1 p.m. doubleheader tomorrow in Longview.
