BELTON, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team completed the three-game series sweep with a 6-1 win over Sul Ross State University Saturday afternoon in Belton. The Cru improved to 22-12 on the season while the Lobos fell to 14-21.Â
UMHB got scoring started early with a two-run homerun from Bailey Frenzel in the bottom of the first. After a perfect top of the third, the Cru extended the lead 3-0 on an RBI single from Kylie Green to bring Chloe Cox home. UMHB added another insurance run in the next frame with a score from Lindsey Polleschultz on a Samantha Castro RBI single.Â
The Lobos narrowed the gap to three in the top of the fifth, scoring on an RBI groundout. The Cru answered back in the bottom of the sixth adding two final runs with an RBI single from Frenzel to score Kaitlin Powers followed by an RBI single from Elisabeth Paul to drive in Taylor Henken. UMHB used three quick outs in the final frame to secure the 6-1 victory.Â
Eileigh Whyte (15-5) earned the win for UMHB, pitching the first six innings with just one earned run on four hits. Ella Gamblin pitched relief in the final inning, allowing no hits. UMHB outhit the Lobos 14-4, led by Polleschultz and Green with three each.Â
The Cru celebrated the senior class of 2024: Elisabeth Paul, Bailey Eggleston, Kylie Green, Allyse Castillo and Kaitlin Powers, following the game. UMHB returns to action May 3rd-4th in a three-game series against Concordia University Texas to close the regular season.Â
