BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team rolled past Westgate Christian University in an 85-6 win Saturday night in Belton. The win moved the Cru to 1-1 on the season while the Ravens fell to 0-2.
UMHB opened the contest with a 36-yard first quarter.
Asa Osbourn opened scoring, catching a 25-yard pass from
Isaac Phe with 12:28 left to play. Osbourn scored 36 seconds later on an eight-yard rush to put the Cru up by two scores.
Westgate Christian responded, scoring on an 86-yard pass from Troy'Troy Tisdale to Dominic Martin.
Jerry Cephus was the next Crusader in the end zone, catching a 60-yard pass from Phe to put the Cru back up by three touchdowns.
Ronald Tatum added a score off a 10-yard fumble recovery before
Durand Hill forced a safety at the 6:27 mark for a 29-6 lead.
Daunte Blake was the final Crusader to score in the first, running in from 27 yards out for a 36-6 first-quarter lead.
Kamerin Ferguson opened the second quarter with a 72-yard rush for another Crusader touchdown.
Myller Royals tacked on another one at 10:56 left in the frame, catching a 19-yard pass from
Tyler Durst.
Dakarion Judge blocked a field goal and returned that 78 yards for another score before Ferguson (87 yards) and
Cameron Bibins (11 yards) both ran for two more touchdowns.
Cameron Bibins ran in for one more touchdown with 3:24 in the third, scoring off a 10-yard run before
Dakarion Judge found the endzone off a 13-yard pass from
Jacob Landry for the 85-6 score. UMHB totaled 562 yards of offense on 47 total plays.
The Cru totaled 357 yards on the ground, led by
Kamerin Ferguson with 185 yards on six carries.
Cameron Bibins added 75 yards on 10 carries while
Daunte Blake tallied 50 and
Tyler Durst had 20. UMHB added 205 yards in the air with
Isaac Phe completing seven passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
Tyler Durst,
Jacob Landry and
Brayden Whitehead all completed passes for the Cru with Durst and Landry also throwing for touchdowns.
The Cru defense limited the Ravens to -35 yards rushing in the game and 143 yards passing.
Joey Johnson led the Cru with seven tackles, adding one tackle for loss.
Angelo Jewell added five tackles while
Dominik Izydorczyk added four with one sack and one pass breakup.
Durand Hill and
Te'Ron Brown were the Cru's tackle for loss leaders with Hill totaling three and Brown adding 2.5. Brown also forced a fumble in the contest with Tatum recovering one fumble and Hill,
Zha'Mauryon Lofton and
Samuel Steffe all adding interceptions.
The Cru returns to action on Saturday, September 21st in a 1 p.m. contest at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
