RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team dropped a road decision at UT Dallas Thursday evening in Richardson. The loss dropped the Cru to 11-5 on the season while the Comets improved to 10-6.
The Comets jumped to an early 5-0 lead in the first quarter before the Cru used a three-pointer from
Josie Bruder and a layup from
Rachel Okoye to pull within two. UT Dallas went back ahead by five but a layup from Okoye at 5:40 cut the lead back to three. The frame played scoreless for the next three minutes before
Adyson James made a foul shot at 2:39 for a 8-10 Comet margin. Cierra Trigg added a three-pointer for the Comets at 2:21, followed by five consecutive points from Anna Yellen for an 18-8 lead. Both teams added two more points in the final 53 seconds for a 20-10 UTD lead after the first quarter.
UTD held a substantial lead through the opening of the second frame, going ahead by as many as 13. UMHB responded with a 6-2 run to cut the lead back to singles before UT Dallas answered with a 7-2 run to close the half and go into the break up 41-27.
The Comets opened the third quarter with five points to extend the gap before
Jaycie Brisco hit a layup for the Cru. UT Dallas held on to the substantial lead, outscoring the Cru 20-9 in the quarter for a 61-36 lead.
UMHB tried to answer in the fourth, outscoring the Comets 14-9 but eventually fell 70-50 in the contest.
Josie Bruder led the Cru with 12 points while
Amillion Fowler added nine.
Rachel Okoye added seven points with
Katelen Brooks and
Jaycie Brisco each adding six. Bruder also led the team with eight rebounds while Brooks had a team-high three assists,
Sofia George tallied two steals and Bruder and Brooks each added two blocks.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, January 23
rd in a 5:30 p.m. contest against East Texas Baptist University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
