BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team earned a 28-19 win in the 2025 homecoming game, beating NAIA's No. 19 Texas Wesleyan 28-19. The win improved the Cru to 3-3 on the season while the Rams moved to 4-3.
UMHB used a 53-yard punt return from
Luke Vidal to set up a short-field scoring drive, going 30 yards on five plays for a touchdown.
Asa Osbourn punched in the five-yard run to put the Cru on the board.
Kirkland Michaux hit Vidal for a 45-yard completion at the end of the first quarter, moving the Cru into TWU territory.
Kamerin Ferguson rushed for three yards before Michaux hit Osbourn for a 28-yard completion. Osbourn finished the drive with a two-yard touchdown punch to put the Cru up by 14.
Texas Wesleyan got into the redzone late in the second quarter but a false start penalty put them behind the chains and the defense held, limiting the Rams to just a field goal. UMHB looked to be running out the clock in the first half but Michaux threw a short completion to
Kamerin Ferguson who added more than 40 yards after the catch, going all the way to the endzone for a 21-3 lead for the Cru.
The Rams drove again but ended the half with a missed field goal to keep the Cru lead at 18. Texas Wesleyan tacked on another field goal at 6:41 to cut the deficit to 15. Texas Wesleyan drove again, getting all the way to the UMHB six-yard line but
Gavin Brzezinski intercepted a pass and ran it back 100 yards for a score, marking just the second time in program history a Crusader has recorded a 100-yard pick six.
UMHB held a comfortable lead but Texas Wesleyan pressed in the fourth. The Rams scored a touchdown with 6:11 to play. UMHB recovered the ensuing onside kick but wasn't able to earn a first down, giving Texas Wesleyan the ball back with 4:40 to play. The Rams went 89 yards on 12 plays to score another touchdown. Texas Wesleyan went for a two-point conversion but a pass breakup from
Izeal Jones in the end zone kept the Cru's lead at nine.
Texas Wesleyan took advantage of another onside kick, this time recovering it to get the ball back with 1:37 to play. The Rams drove all the way down the UMHB 23-yard line but an interception from
Denim Collins ended the threat, sealing the 28-19 win for the Cru.
Michaux went 15-for-26 for 226 yards and a touchdown in the contest.
Asa Osbourn rushed for 55 yards on 18 carries and added 37 yards receiving, totaling two touchdowns along the way.
Luke Vidal tallied two catches for 60 yards while
Kamerin Ferguson added two grabs for 52 yards.
Quinci Jones led the Cru's receiving core with four catches.
Da'Marion Morris led the defense with 12 tackles, seven solo.
JJ Davis added 10 tackles while Morris,
Ty Legg, Brzezinski,
Aidan Ross,
Braden Eberwine and
Devon Freitag each added a tackle for loss. Legg, Eberwine and Freitag also added a sack while Brzezinski and Collins both recorded interceptions.
Logan Childs punted 277 yards on eight punts, averaging 34.6 yards per punt. Vidal led all Cru returners with 76 yards off two punt returns while
Jack Hight went four-for-four in extra points.
UMHB returns to action in the annual TOUCHDOWNS game on Saturday, October 25
th. The Cru will kick off against Howard Payne University at 1 p.m. at Crusader Stadium.
