BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team took home a hard-fought win against Hardin-Simmons University in a 3-2 home match victory. This win improves the Cru's record to 15-5 overall, while the Cowgirls move to 13-7 on the season.
The first set began with back-and-forth kills from both teams to tie it up at 7-7. A run led by a kill from Cameron Pesek took the Cru on a four-point streak, taking the lead at 11-7. Both teams fought in a close set taking the game to 17-14, but an eight-point Crusader run ended the set at 25-14 with a UMHB win.
HSU opened set two with a five-point run to put the Cowgirls up 5-0. The Cru fought back, but another run from the Cowgirls put UMHB down 19-6 late in the set. Kills from Dravyn Hurd and Baylee Mobley gave the Cru momentum, but an HSU service ace gave the Cowgirls the set win at 25-13.
Both teams came out swinging in the third set, knotting the game at 5-5. A four-point HSU run gave them the lead at 14-8 later in the set. Kills from Dravyn Hurd and Raylee Schaffner brought the Cru to a 17-13 deficit, but the Cowgirls fought hard and ended the set with a 25-17 victory.
The Cowgirls opened set four with a quick 2-0 lead before a kill from Cameron Pesek catalyzed a Crusaders five-point streak, taking the 5-2 lead. The set remained close with back-and-forth points from both teams, but the Cru maintained the lead late in the set at 19-17. HSU fought hard, but a kill from Baylee Mobley closed out a 25-19 set win, forcing a fifth frame of play.
The fifth set began with a three-point run from UMHB before back-and-forth points made for an 8-5 Cru lead. A kill from Dravyn Hurd gave the Crusaders momentum as they led 11-5. The Cowgirls fought, but a kill from Baylee Mobley ended the set at 15-7 and sealed the 3-2 match victory for the Cru.
Baylee Mobley led the Crusaders in kills with 16 on the match, while Dravyn Hurd and Cameron Pesek followed with 11 each. Kendall Harrington added 48 assists on the match, while Angie Garcia led in service aces with two.
Defensively, Kendall Harrington led the Cru with 22 digs. Baylee Mobley followed with 14, while Angie Garcia tallied 12 in the match. Leading the team in blocks for the evening was Natalie Hughes with four.
The Crusaders return to action at home on Friday, October 24th at 6:00pm to take on Howard Payne. The 2025 UMHB Volleyball seniors will be recognized immediately following the match.
