JACKSON, Miss. –The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team earned a pair of road wins in Jackson Saturday, finishing the regular-season with a 21-5 record.
UMHB opened play for the day with an early six-point run to begin the first game, taking a quick 7-1 lead. Belhaven broke the streak with a kill, but the Cru bounced back scoring six more to extend their lead 13-2. UMHB held the upper hand for the remainder of the set, holding Belhaven to single digits, closing out set one at 25-9.
The Blazers came out swinging in the second set, taking a quick 12-1 lead, holding the high ground to finish the set 25-8. Set three opened with four
Raylee Schaffner kills, knotting the frame 5-5. After a few tied scores, the Blazers found a 17-13 lead. The Cru responded, going on a nine-point streak, highlighted by three kills from
Baylee Mobley, putting the 22-17 lead into the hands of UMHB.
Allie Thompson sealed the 25-20 set victory with a kill, assisted by
Kendall Harrington.
UMHB closed out their match victory with a 25-23 fourth-set win, tabbing 16 kills in the frame to win the contest three sets to one.
Raylee Schaffner led the Cru with 14 kills while
Dravyn Hurd added eight and
Kaysen Miller tallied seven. UMHB totaled 47 kills in the contest, anchored by Kendall Harringon with 36 assists. The Cru also served eight aces with
Faith Clark,
Angie Garcia and
Allie Thompson each adding two. Defensively, Garcia led with 20 digs followed by
Baylee Mobley with 15. Harrington also had five blocks in the contest, followed by Thompson with four.
UMHB used a 10-point run in the first set to take a 19-13 lead and cruised to a 25-22 win from there. Millsaps mirrored that in the second set and used a 9-2 run late in the set to take a 25-15 win. The Cru answered in the fourth, using a 9-1 run to go ahead by ten and evening the match at two-sets each with a 25-13 win. The Cru opened the fifth set with six unanswered points and went ahead by eight at the 11-3 mark. Millsaps fought back but UMHB stayed on top, sealing the 3-2 win with a 15-7 final-set victory.
Schaffner again led the Cru with 14 kills, followed by Mobley with 10 and Hurd with nine. Harrington had a team-high 40 assists while Mobley led the Cru with six service aces. Defensively, Mobley tallied 19 digs followed by Garcia with 16 and Clark with 15.
This closes out regular season play for UMHB. The Cru returns to action on Friday, November 14
th in the American Southwest Conference tournament.
