BELTON, Texas- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor played a hard fought battle but fell in a 3-0 match against the No. 5 East Texas Baptist University Tigers during UMHB'S Gold Out fundraiser game in honor of pediatric cancer.
The first set began with runs from both teams to tie the game at 4-4. The Tigers went on a six-point rally to give them a 10-4 lead. A kill from Crusader
Kaysen Miller gave the Cru momentum at 13-9, but a series of kills between both teams made the set 17-15 with the Tigers in lead. A ETBU kill ended the first set with a Tiger win, 25-16.
Set two began with back-and-forth points to tie at 5-5. A kill by Crusader
Cameron Pesek and a service ace from
Kaysen Miller put the Cru up 7-5. A run of points gave ETBU the lead for the first time in the set at 12-11. The Cru brought the set back to a 17-17 tie, but ETBU held onto the lead and ended the second set in a close 25-23 win.
The third set began with a two-point lead from ETBU before the Cru took the lead at 3-2 with a kill from
Kaysen Miller. The set continued with rallies from both teams, but ETBU's five-point run gave the Tigers a lead 15-12 lead. The Cru fought back with a five-point run late in the set but ETBU managed to hold the high ground and ended the set 25-22 for the three-set win. Â
Kaysen Miller led the Cru with 10 kills.
Dravyn Hurd added seven kills, while
Natalie Hughes tallied five for the match.
Kendall Harrington had 35 assists and
Kaysen Miller had four service aces for the night.
Defensively,
Peyton Sedlacek led the Cru with 16, followed by
Baylee Mobley with 11. Leading the team in blocks was
Natalie Hughes with seven block assists.
UMHB returns to action on Friday, September 26
th in a 6 p.m. match at Howard Payne University.
