BROWNWOOD, Tx. - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team earned a straight-set victory over Howard Payne University on Friday evening in Brownwood. The Cru won by set scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-11. This win improved the Cru's record to 18-5 overall and 8-1 in conference play.
UMHB controlled the match at the net, finishing with 32 kills and hitting .253 as a team. The Cru also tallied eight blocks during the match.
UMHB opened the match with a strong offensive performance, recording 10 kills in the opening set. The Cru grabbed the lead with a six point run 12-5. The Cru maintained its lead throughout the set before securing the 25-19 win.
The second set opened with the two teams exchanging points back-and-forth before the Cru began to break away at 16-12. Cru continued to control the match and secured the second set win 25-18. UMHB continued to dominate in the third set with a 25-11 win.
Lilli Sandoval led the Cru with eight kills, while
Addison Yates and
Natalie Hughes had six.
Chloe Brandt led the Cru with 13 assists, while
Addison Lundquist added seven. Angie Garcie led the Cru defensively with seven digs, with
Lilli Sandoval having six and Natalie Huges with five.
Allie Thompson had a block party, totaling four solo blacks.
The Cru returns to action Saturday, October 31, in a 2:00 p.m. contest against Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas.
