BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team earned a 10-7 win over No. 15 Webster University Saturday night in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 3-3 on the season with a 2-1 series win.
Webster opened the game with a pair of second-inning runs, followed by a single in the third inning for a 3-0 lead. UMHB mounted a comeback in the third, scoring nine runs.
Riley Bender and
Taylor McDaniel hit back-to-back RBI singles, followed by a bases-loaded walk from
Chris Perez to tie the game at three.
Braden Fuentes followed, hitting a two-RBI double before
Tyler Betts hit in a run with a fielder's choice.
Cameron Talburt was next, doubling to score Betts and Fuentes before McDaniel scored Talburt for a 9-3 lead.
Webster added two runs in the fifth off a home run and one off a single to cut the gap to four.
Easton Cline hit in the Cru's final run in the sixth inning with an RBI single that scored Fuents. The Gorloks added one more run in the ninth but
Gavin Oliver closed the game on the mound, sealing the win for the Cru.
Cline led UMHB going three-for-four with one RBI while Fuentes, Talburt and Bender each recorded two hits. Talburt and Fuentes also had a team-high two runs in the contest.
Zach Hampton earned the win on the mound, throwing 1.1 innings with one hit and one run allowed.
Mason Semmelmann pitched a shutout in 2.1 innings of work with three strikeouts and no hits allowed.
Caleb Kennedy also threw a shutout inning while
Cole Morkovsky and
Preston Blake also made mound appearances.
UMHB returns to action on Tuesday, February 17
th in a 6 p.m. contest against Schreiner University at Red Murff Field in Belton.
