KERRVILLE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team split games with Schreiner Saturday afternoon in Kerrville.
Game one action began scoreless through the first, but the Mountaineers added three runs in the third inning off five hits and a UMHB error. Addy Todd added a single to shortstop in the second inning, along with a seventh-inning double to center from Ryleigh Mills. The Cru were unable to capitalize, dropping game one 3-0.
Mills went 1-1 with a double, while Todd went 1-2 with a single. Alli Dafoe opened the game in the circle, going 1.1 innings. Beth Ann Johnston closed out with 4.2 innings, tallying four strikeouts and giving up four hits.
Both teams tallied a scoreless first inning, but the Cru broke through in the top of the second, putting up five runs on four hits and two Schreiner errors. Jordan Iverson led off the inning with a double to center and was advanced to third on an Addy Todd single. Bralyn Belk followed with a two-RBI single to score Todd and Iverson. Ava Jolley and Riley Marek each reached, with Belk crossing the plate for another run. Jolley scored on a catcher error, followed by an RBI double from Ryleigh Mills to score Marek. The Cru went into the bottom of the second with a 5-0 lead.
The Mountaineers responded in the bottom of the third with one run off one hit, moving the score to 5-1. UMHB had another big inning in the fourth, adding two more runs off singles from Ava Perlinger and Sara Pelache, along with an RBI sac fly from Jordan Iverson to extend the Cru's lead to 7-1. Riley Marek added a sacrifice fly RBI in the fifth to score Sabrina Morgan, who pinch ran for Bralyn Belk after reaching on a left field single. This extended the Cru's lead to 8-1.
UMHB added four more runs in the sixth inning, kickstarted by a single and a stolen base from Addy Todd. Macy Alewine singled to left to score Todd, who then scored on an error. Brielle Moreland added an RBI double to right field to score Angelina Rodriguez. Followed by a Riley Marek Single to score Moreland, securing the 12-1 win.
Addy Todd and Bralyn Belk each went 2-3 at the plate, with Belk adding two RBI and one run scored. The Cru tallied 13 total hits in game two.
Katherine Neal earned the win in the circle, pitching three complete innings with three strikeouts. Ella Gamblin closed it out with a strikeout, allowing just one hit.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, February 14th in a 12:00pm double-header at Southwestern University.
