Talburt delivers walk-off grand slam in victory over St. Thomas

BELTON, Texas — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team earned an 11-7 walk-off win against the University of St. Thomas (TX) Tuesday evening. This win improves the Cru's record to 17-8 on the season, while the Celts fall to 8-17.

St. Thomas earned a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the inning. The Cru knotted the game in the bottom of the frame, plating four runs on singles from Cameron Talburt, Easton Cline, and Nolan Williams, along with a Taylor McDaniel double. St. Thomas put another run on the board in the second, but UMHB answered again with another two RBI double from McDaniel to take the 6-5 lead.

After five scoreless innings, the Cru added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a Riley Bender sacrifice fly to score Cline, extending UMHB's deficit to 7-5. The Celts responded in the top of the ninth, knotting the game at seven, to head to the bottom of the frame. After the bases were loaded with three walks, Cameron Talburt came to plate, launching a shot over the left field wall for a walk-off grand slam, securing the Cru's 11-7 victory.

Taylor McDaniel went three for four at the plate with two doubles, four RBI, and a run scored. Cameron Talburt added three hits in six at bats with a double and a grand slam with four RBI. Easton Cline tallied two hits with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Cole Morkovsky had the start on the mound for the Cru, fanning four in four innings. Ryland Anders and Preston Blake added two innings each, while Gavin Oliver closed, earning the win.

UMHB returns to action at Red Murff Field on Thursday, April 2nd with a 6:00pm first pitch against Concordia University Texas.
