Softball drops two at LeTourneau

LONGVIEW, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team dropped a pair of close games at LeTourneau University Tuesday in Longview. UMHB drops to 11-15 on the season while the Yellowjackets also move to 11-15.
 
Ryleigh Mills gave the Cru a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, scoring Addy Todd and Ava Jolley with a double. Le Tourneau answered with a one-run second inning before scoring two more runs off a pair of RBI in the third for a 3-2 Yellowjacket lead.
 
Bralyn Belk hit in Vic Shimabukuro with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth to even the contest at three. That knot held until the sixth inning when the Yellowjackets hit a three-RBI double to seal the 6-3 win.
 
Ava Jolley led the Cru with two hits while five other Crusaders each added one. Alli Dafoe earned the start in the circle, throwing two innings with three runs and five hits allowed. Chloe Booth threw four innings in relief, giving up three runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
 
UMHB threw shutout inning in the first three frames before UMHB took a lead in the fourth inning. Ryleigh Mills singled to score Addy Todd who reached on a double, before Macy Alewine plated Mills with another single. Jordan Iverson later reached on an error, giving Riley Marek space to score for a 3-0 UMHB margin. The Yellowjackets added single-run frames in the fourth and fifth innings to cut the gap down to one.
 
UMHB answered in the sixth, scoring Shimabukuro off an RBI from Bralyn Belk and Marek with a single from Jordan Iverson but the Yellowjackets answered again, scoring three seventh-inning runs to take a 6-5 win.
 
Addy Todd and Bralyn Belk led the Cru with two hits each while five other Crusaders each added one. Four different Crusaders tallied RBI with Marek scoring a team-high two runs. Beth Ann Johnston threw one inning in the circle, giving up two hits while Ella Gamblin added 5.2 innings with six runs allowed.
 
UMHB returns to action on Monday, March 30th in a 3 p.m. doubleheader against Concordia University Texas at Dee Dillon Field in Belton.
