James joined the Cru in 2025 after spending the 2024 season on the active roster. 

James played college football at East Texas Baptist University, where he graduated with a degree in business administration in 2022. He was a two-time all-ASC selection during his time as a student-athlete. James is currently pursuing a master's degree in Information Systems at UMHB. 

James is the son of James Wright III and April Hightower.
