2023: ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team … Academic All-ASC … Second Team All-ASC …  Started in all 10 games … totaled 21 solo tackles with 17 assisted takedowns … added 3.5 tackles for loss … recorded interceptions against Sul Ross State and Howard Payne … added seven pass breakups.

2022: D3football.com Region 3 Third Team Defense ..First Team All–ASC … Three-time D3football Team of the Week …  ASC Player of the Week (Sept. 26) …  ranked second on the team with 86 total tackles … had 44 solo takedowns ... Added 17.5 tackles for 57 yards lost … recorded two sacks for 12 yards lost … added one interception and five pass breakups … totaled one fumble recovery and four forced fumbles.

2021: Academic All-ASC selection … played in 10 games at linebacker … had a season-high six tackles against Texas Lutheran … totaled 12 tackles with eight solo takedowns … added forced fumble and fumble recovery against Texas Lutheran.  

Johnny is an exercise physiology major at UMHB. He participated in basketball, football and track at Haltom High School. Johnny was a four-time all-district selection, two-time all-state honoree, league MVP and team captain. He was also an academic all-state honoree. Johnny also participated in the High On Life Club. He is the son of Marcus Rider and Tammy Smith.
