Akeem Echols joined the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Men’s Basketball coaching staff in August 2025 and quickly made an impact in his first season. He helped lead the Cru to a 21–8 record, capturing both the Regular Season and Conference Championships, along with an NCAA Tournament selection and a second-round appearance. He plays a vital role in player development and recruiting, helping elevate the program’s standard of excellence.

Coach Echols brings a dynamic and well-rounded background, shaped by his playing career at Cecil College (2012), Baltimore City Community College (2012–13), and Shaw University (2014–16). He later competed professionally overseas with Erebuni Cedars in Yerevan, Armenia (2018–19) and Vikingos de Los Mochis in Sinaloa, Mexico (2019–20).

In addition to his professional career, Echols has represented the United States through military competition, participating in the All-Armed Forces Championship in 2022 and 2024. He was selected to Team USA for the 2024 World Games in Belgium, Germany, earning two gold medals.

Known for his high energy, attention to detail, and ability to connect with student-athletes, Echols is committed to developing players both on and off the court. His experience at multiple levels of the game allows him to mentor athletes in their growth as competitors, students, and future professionals.

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Echols holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Leadership from The University of Arizona Global Campus. He and his wife, Morgan, have a son, Akeem Jr., and a daughter, Nalani.
