Alvie King

Alvie King joined the coaching staff in August 2022 and has made a significant impact on the program. He has helped lead the Cru to back-to-back conference championship appearances in 2024 and 2025, including a 21–8 season, capturing both the Regular Season and Conference Championships, along with an NCAA Tournament second-round appearance.

Coach King brings over 26 years of high school coaching experience, including successful tenures at Mumford High School, where his team appeared in three state finals appearances from 2012–2014 and a state championship in 2014, and also coached at Milano High School. He played collegiately at Temple Junior College (1989–90).

As the program’s shooting coach, King has played a key role in the team’s offensive success, helping the Cru rank among the top teams nationally in three-point shooting and set a school record with 291 made three-pointers in a season. He has also directed shooting camps for more than 20 years, developing players at all levels.

King has strong ties to UMHB through his family. His son Aubrie, competed in basketball from 2017–2018 and remains the program’s all-time leader in three-pointers made for a season and free throw percentage. Kyle played football from 2019–2022, earning All-American honors, a national championship, and setting 14 school records.
A native of Milano, Texas, King holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and History from Sam Houston State University and has written and recorded 50 songs. He and his wife, Wendy, have three sons, Aubrie, Kyle and Ben.
