Abby Spurgin joined the Cru in May 2023. 

She had a successful collegiate playing career at both West Texas A&M University (2017-21) and Hawai'i Pacific (2022-23). At West Texas A&M, Abby was named Most Valuable Player of the Lonestar Conference Tournament, Dave Campbell's Texas Basketball All-Division II Team, Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA), All-South Central Region and First Team All-Lonestar Conference. Abby also holds the record for most blocks in a single game of the conference tournament (seven). She helped her team to a Lonestar Tournament Championship in 2019 and ranked third in the nation with six blocks per contest in 2019-20. Overall, Abby helped WTAMU to three regular-season championships, two Lonestar Tournament Championships and one NCAA Division II Sectionals appearance. 

Spurgin was named PacWest Player of the Year and PacWest Newcomer of the Year at Hawai'i Pacific in 2023. She was also a First Team All-PacWest, D2CCA All-America and WBCA All-America selection. Spurgin led the conference with 22 points per game, 2.4 blocks per game and ranked second in rebounds. She was also named D2CCA All-West Region First Team, scoring 530 points on the year. She holds school records for points in game (39) and blocks in game (seven).

Spurgin is a native of Fredericksburg. She is the daughter of the late Jim Spurgin and Heather and Andy Nowak. Her sister, Audrey, is also a basketball player and is currently a student-athlete at Lubbock Christian University.
