Barry Elkins became the head women's soccer coach at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in April of 2012 and quickly turned the Cru women's program around. The Cru set a new mark for wins in a season with a 17-1-1 record and advanced to the NCAA postseason for the second time in program history. Elkins was also voted American Southwest Conference Coach of the Year and United Soccer Coaches Region X Coach of the Year after the 2022 campaign. The Cru continued making waves in the 2023 season, earning the ASC Regular Season Champions title and advancing to the NCAA postseason. UMHB earned the program's first right to host the NCAA Tournament that season. Elkins was also voted ASC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year.Â
The UMHB job was a homecoming for Elkins, a UMHB graduate and four-year letterman for the Cru men’s soccer program. Elkins now has a 132-46-16 overall record in eleven seasons as the UMHB head women's soccer coach. He has also recruited and coached all four of the programs all-Americans.Â
