Clinton, MS – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team took the lead for keeps with 8:45 left in the first half and the Cru just stretched it out in the second half on the way to an 82-68 victory over Mississippi College Tuesday night in Clinton, Mississippi. The UMHB men improve to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Choctaws to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in the ASC on the season.
            Marlon Miller's three-pointer gave the Cru a 20-18 lead with 8:45 remaining in the first half and the Cru never trailed again. UMHB would open up a 35-28 halftime lead after leading by as many as 11 points in the first half. The Choctaws would close to within six points on two occasions early in the second half before the Cru opened it up again. UMHB would lead by as many as 22 points midway through the second before MC closed the gap to the final margin of 14.

            Sterling Phillips led the Cru with 22 points and he added six assists. Miller was 5-7 from the field and scored 11 points in seven minutes in his first action of the season. James Allen also had 11 points and Dean Pele added 10 for UMHB. Greg Wiernas grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to lead the Cru. UMHB shot 44 percent from the field and went 7-18 from three-point range. The Cru also forced 24 turnovers in the victory.

            Greg Pulliam topped Mississippi College with 15 points and Ken Black added 10 for the Choctaws. Chad Jones had nine rebounds to lead MC. The Choctaws shot 35 percent from the field and went 6-17 from beyond the arc.

            UMHB will continue its road trip with a 7:30 PM tip-off at Louisiana College on Thursday. The Cru will then return home to host the two-day, four-team Cru Holiday Classic on December 29th and 30th at the Mayborn Campus Center.
