Women's basketball falls to Louisiana College

Pineville, LA – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team could not recover from a five-minute dry spell in the second half as the Cru let a halftime lead get away in a 71-60 loss to Louisiana College Thursday evening in Pineville, Louisiana. The loss drops the UMHB women to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in American Southwest Conference play on the season. The Wildcats, ranked 24th in the nation, improve to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the ASC on the season with the victory.
            UMHB fell behind 6-0 to start the game, but the Cru battled back from that early deficit for a 26-24 halftime edge. UMHB would lead 30-28 with 16:32 remaining in the game, but the Wildcats went on a 15-4 run to take a 43-32 lead with 12:37 left to play. The Cru would claw back to within six points when Caitlin Barganier's three-pointer cut the lead to 60-54 with 3:34 to go, but that's as close as UMHB could get and LC iced the game from the free-throw line in the final minute to push it back to double-digits.

            Both teams were cold from the field, hitting just 39 percent. UMHB went 3-20 from three-point range while the Wildcats hit 5-17 from beyond the arc. LC went 20-29 from the free-throw line while UMHB won the rebounding battle 41-36. The Cru also turned the ball over 25 times in the loss.

            Lindsay Eaton led UMHB with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Landie Thompson added 10 points for the Cru and Stacie Stephens and Brittany Zamora chipped in with seven apiece.

            Natosha Gottlieb had a huge night for the Wildcats, erupting for a game-high 34 points and grabbing a team-best eight rebounds. Tillisha Givens and Roslyn Wilmer added 10 points each for
Louisiana College.

            The Cru women will now take a little over two weeks off for the Christmas break before returning to action. UMHB will host Concordia Texas for the ASC West Division opener for both teams on Monday, January 3rd at 5:30 PM.
