Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team built a double-digit lead midway through the first half and the Cru never looked back on the way to a 70-44 victory over LeTourneau University Thursday night in Belton. The UMHB women improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The Cru has also won four straight games since opening the season with a loss to Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The loss drops the Yellowjackets to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the ASC on the season.
UMHB would open up a 10-point lead at 20-10 with 12:37 left in the first half. LeTourneau would battle back to cut the lead to three points, but the Cru stretched it out again and lead 41-22 at halftime. UMHB would lead by as many as 28 points as the Cru continued to pull away in the second half.
Brandy Dittert topped UMHB with 14 points, all of them in the first half.
Jenny Black also reached double figures with 10 points and
Lindsay Eaton had a solid all-around game with eight points, nine rebounds and five assists. Twelve different players scored in the game for the Cru.
Megan McGuire led LeTourneau with eight points and De'Shante Thomas grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Laura Hahn and Alexis Wighaman had seven points apiece for the Yellowjackets.
The Cru out rebounded LeTourneau 47-33 and forced 20 turnovers. UMHB shot 40 percent from the field and held the Yellowjackets to 31 percent shooting. The Cru also went 9-22 from three-point range compared to 3-11 for LeTourneau.
The Cru will continue its home stand with a 1:00 PM tip-off against U.T.-Tyler on Saturday. UMHB will then take a week off before returning to action with a 3:00 PM home non-conference game against Southwestern University on December 11th.
