Volleyball beats U.T.-Tyler 3-2

Tyler, TX — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team stormed back from the edge of defeat to knock off U.T.-Tyler 3-2 in a crucial American Southwest Conference East Division showdown Tuesday night in Tyler. The Cru improves to 15-5 overall and 10-3 in ASC play with the victory. UMHB also avenges its only loss to an ASC East Division opponent this season with the win. The other two league losses for the Cru came against ASC West Division foes in the ASC Dig Pink Crossover Challenge. The loss drops the Patriots to 15-9 overall and 8-5 in the ASC on the season.
 
UMHB won the opening set, but dropped next two. The Cru battled back to win set four and held off the Patriots in a hotly contested fifth set to post the 25-17, 17-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-11. The Cru hit .236 as a team in the match and forced U.T.-Tyler into 24 attack errors.
 
Tina Miller led UMHB with 14 kills and Kaydie Cochran added 11 more. Anissa Garcia had 43 assists and 13 digs as one of four players to reach double figures in digs for the Cru. Morgan Baker led the team with 18 digs, Jasmine Austin added 12 and Elise Butler posted 10.
 
With the 15 wins this season, UMHB has posted its highest single-season win total since recording 20 wins during the 1998 campaign. The Cru will return to action with road matches at Mississippi College on Friday and at Centenary College on Saturday.
