Volleyball edges ETBU 3-2

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team could not put East Texas Baptist away until the final set as the Cru held on for a 3-2 victory over the Tigers Saturday night in Belton. UMHB improves to 18-7 overall and 13-4 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. ETBU drops to 9-16 overall and 5-11 in the ASC with the loss.
                                           
The two teams traded wins through the first four sets before UMHB won five of the last seven points in the fifth set to take a 25-21, 14-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-12 win. ETBU would outhit the Cru .289 to .249, but the Tigers had 27 attack errors and nine service errors in the match. UMHB committed just 14 attack errors and three service errors.
 
Tine Miller led the Cru with 19 kills and Kaydie Cochran chipped in 17. Anissa Garcia posted 52 assists and a team-best 14 digs. Elise Butler added 13 digs and Jasmine Austin also reached double figures with 10 digs for UMHB.
 
Melanie Moyer topped five players in double figures with 19 kills for ETBU. Kayla Taylor gad 49 assists and Nicole Vanderlaan posted a team-best 33 digs to lead five players in double figures in that category.
 
The Cru also clinched second place in the ASC East Division with the victory and will be the #2 seed from the East in the ASC Championship Tournament in two weeks. UMHB will close out the regular season with four matches over two days at the Millsaps College Tournament in Jackson, Mississippi next weekend.
