Volleyball sweeps opening matches at Millsaps Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Jackson, MS – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept two matches on the opening day of the Millsaps College Tournament and made program history in the process. The Cru opened the day with a four-set win over Howard Payne University before topping LaGrange College 3-0. UMHB improves to 20-7 on the season with the two wins and the Cru matches the NCAA Division III-era school single-season record of 20 wins.
 
UMHB opened the day with a 25-19, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23 win over Howard Payne University. Morgan Baker led the team with 12 kills and Tina Miller added 11 more. Sophia Alexiou chipped in with eight kills. Anissa Garcia had 41 assists and 11 digs while Elise Butler and Kaydie Cochran led the way with 12 digs apiece.
 
The Cru then beat LaGrange 25-21, 26-24, 25-16 to close out the first day. Alexiou topped the team with 11 kills while hitting .562. Kimberly Smidovec added eight kills and Garcia had a team-high 42 assists. Jasmine Austin led UMHB with 19 digs, Butler added 18 digs and Cochran had 10 digs for the Cru.
 
UMHB will close out the regular season and the tournament with matches against Belhaven University and Millsaps College tomorrow. The Cru will then advance to the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament next weekend in Richardson. UMHB will be the #2 seed from the ASC East Division and will open play against the ASC West Division #3 seed on Friday.
