Volleyball beats Howard Payne for tenth straight win

Tyler, TX— The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team once again held on in the first set before rolling through the next two as the Cru posted a 3-0 win over Howard Payne Friday night in Tyler. The match was the finale on the first day of the American Southwest Conference Dig Pink Crossover Challenge. UMHB has now won 10 matches in a row and improves to 14-3 overall and 9-1 in ASC play. The 14 wins are the most by a UMHB volleyball team since the 2005 squad went 14-16. Howard Payne falls to 7-12 overall and3-7 in the ASC on the season with the loss.
 
The Cru fought back from an early opening deficit on the way to a 27-25, 25-16, 25-22 victory over the Yellow Jackets. Kimberly Smidovec topped UMHB with 12 kills and Kaydie Cochran added seven more. Jasmine Austin had a team-high 16 digs and Anissa Garcia led the Cru with 35 assists. UMHB hit .248 as a team in the victory.
 
The Cru will close out the crossover tournament with two more matches tomorrow. UMHB will take on McMurry University at 10:00 AM before facing Hardin-Simmons University in a 3:00 PM start.
