Women's basketball tops Sul Ross 87-50

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team scored the game's first 11 points and the Cru never looked back on the way to an 87-50 victory over Sul Ross State Saturday afternoon in Belton. The UMHB women improve to 13-8 overall and 10-7 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Lobos to 0-21 overall and 0-17 in the ASC.
            UMHB opened the game with an 11-0 run and held Sul Ross scoreless for the first 4:10 of the game. The opening run would grow to 17-3 and the Cru led by as many as 24 points before settling for a 43-23 halftime lead. UMHB opened the second half with a 7-0 run and continued to control the game from there. The Cru never let the Lobos closer than 28 points the rest of the way.
            Jovana Miles came off the bench to post her first career double-double for the Cru with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Landie Thompson added 18 points and eight rebounds and Lindsay Eaton finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for UMHB. Eleven of the 12 players in uniform for the Cru scored in the game.
            Madlyn Lopez topped Sul Ross State with 19 points and nine rebounds. Nicole Murdock added 11 points for the Lobos.
            UMHB shot 46 percent from the field and out rebounded Sul Ross State 52-28. The Cru also forced 17 turnovers while the giving the ball away just seven times. The Lobos shot 33 percent from the field and went 7-27 from three-point range.
            UMHB will now hit the road for a pair of key ASC West Division games in Abilene next week. The Cru will open the week with a 5:30 PM tip-off at Hardin-Simmons University on Thursday before closing out the week with a 1:00 PM start at McMurry University on Saturday.
