Kerrville, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team built early leads and then held on in both games as the Cru posted a doubleheader sweep of Schreiner University Friday night in Kerrville. UMHB won game one 5-1 and took game two by a 10-7 score. The Cru improves to 13-9 overall and 6-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the two victories. Schreiner falls to 7-15 overall and 1-5 in the ASC West with the two losses.

The Cru grabbed an early lead and then added a three-run seventh-inning in a 5-1 game one victory. UMHB would take a 2-0 lead on Caitlin Bollier's RBI single and Hannah White's RBI double in the top of the third inning. The Mountaineers would cut it to 2-1 with a single run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Cru answered with the three-run seventh. Megan Bohne doubled home the first two runs and Kaysie Creech added an RBI double to put it out of reach. Erica White tossed a complete-game, five-hitter for UMHB to raise her record to 6-1. White struck out two and walked two. Creech finished with three hits for the Cru and Bohne, Bollier and Hannah White added two hits apiece.

UMHB seemed to take control of game two with a six-run fifth inning, but the Cru had to hold off a Schreiner rally for a 10-7 win. The Cru fell behind 1-0 before taking a 2-1 lead on a passed ball and Hannah White's run-scoring groundout in the top of the third inning. UMHB stretched it to 8-1 with six runs in the fifth. White doubled home the first run, Bohne blasted a three-run homer, Caitlin Wells added an RBI single and Austin McCormick closed out the frame with an RBI double. Schreiner would cut it to 8-4 with a three-run fifth before White's solo homer made it 9-4 Cru in the top of the sixth. Bollier added an RBI single in the top of the seventh to give UMHB a 10-4 edge, but the Mountaineers scored three more in the bottom of the seventh to pull to within 10-7. Erica White then came on and struck out the last two batters to end the threat and nail down her second save of the season. Ariel Kemmerer earned the win for the Cru to even her record at 3-3 on the year. Wells and Bollier had three hits apiece for the Cru and Bohne and Hannah White added two hits and three RBI each for UMHB.

The two teams will close out the weekend with a 1:00 PM doubleheader tomorrow in Kerrville. The Cru will then return home to host Sul Ross State University for a four-game, ASC West Division series next weekend at Dee Dillon Field.
