Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team overcame sluggish starts in both games to post a pair of run-rule victories in a doubleheader sweep of Sul Ross State University Friday afternoon in Belton. The Cru won both games by 8-0 scores to improve to 17-9 overall and 10-0 in American Southwest Conference West Division play. Sul Ross State falls to 1-25 overall and 0-14 in ASC West Division play with the two losses.

The Cru took charge of game one with a six-run second inning and UMHB rolled to an 8-0 victory. Hannah White's solo home run gave the Cru a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before the Cru took control in the bottom of the second. Chandler Henson's RBI double started the scoring and Caitlin Bollier added a two-run double. Kaysie Creech had an RBI infield single, White doubled home a run and Henson added an RBI fielder's choice to make it 7-0 UMHB. The Cru would add its final run on Henson's RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. That would be more than enough offense to go along with Erica White's dominating performance in the circle. White allowed just one hit, an infield single in the top of the first inning while raising her record to 8-1. She struck out six, walked two and the Lobos did not hit the ball out of the infield in the game. Hannah White finished with three hits and Bollier and Henson added two hits apiece. Henson drove in three runs and Bollier and Hannah White added two RBI each.

The Cru wouldn't put game two away until erupting for five runs in the bottom of the fifth on the way to another 8-0 win. The Cru scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third when Jordan Schrutka was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Pinch-runner Lindsey Gordon stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. Gordon would score on another throwing error on a failed pickoff to give UMHB a lead. The Cru took advantage of two more errors to make it 2-0 when Austin McCormick scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the fourth. UMHB then put five on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Bollier's RBI double opened the scoring, Hannah White added an RBI single, Brittany Moreno hit a sacrifice fly and Jordan Giesen and Schrutka added RBI singles to make it 7-0. The Cru would end the game in the bottom of the sixth when Megan Bohne's wind-blown single landed just out of reach of a Sul Ross fielder, scoring Bollier with the game-ending run. Ariel Kemmerer picked up the win for UMHB to move to 5-3. Kemmerer allowed just two hits in five innings, striking out four and walking one. Eight different players had hits for the Cru in the victory.

The two teams will close out the series with an 11:00 AM doubleheader on Saturday. UMHB will then travel to Seguin next weekend for a four-game ASC West Division series at Texas Lutheran University on Friday and Saturday.
