Lewisville, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team could not generate enough offense to overcome an untimely passed ball and the Cru lost to Hardin-Simmons 1-0 in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Friday in Lewisville. The loss eliminates the Cru from the ASC Tournament and drops UMHB to 28-14 on the season. The Cowgirls improve to 24-18 on the season and move on to another elimination game at 6:30 PM today.

HSU scored what proved to be the game's only run when Cera Beasley scored on a passed ball in the top of the second inning. Cru pitcher Erica White appeared to have the tag in time, but could not hold on to the ball. HSU would also put two runners on base in the top of the fifth, but UMHB would get out of the jam without allowing a run. The Cru would load the bases in the bottom of the sixth. Kaysie Creech singled with two outs and moved to third when Caitlin Bollier reached on a passed ball and throwing error. Megan Bohne walked to load the bases, but Hannah White popped out to end the threat and leave the bases loaded. UMHB would get out of another two-on jam in the top of the seventh, but the Cru went down in order in the bottom of that frame to end the game.

Erica White took the loss to drop to 16-4 for the Cru after giving up eight hits and one run in seven innings. She struck out nine and walked four. Megann Lewis earned the win to move to 13-9 for HSU after giving up just two hits and striking out 13 in a complete-game shutout. Creech had both of the Cru's hits in the loss. Kelsey Evans and Taylor Namey had two hits apiece for HSU.

The loss knocks the Cru out of the ASC Tournament and likely out of consideration for an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. UMHB was ranked eighth in the West Region in the latest NCAA Regional Rankings. If the Cru does not get an at-large bid, Friday's loss also closed out the careers of five UMHB seniors, Megan Bohne, Lindsey Gordon, Austin McCormick, Sara Roman and Erica White. The Cru was making its 12th ASC Tournament appearance in the 13-year history of the event.
