Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team used a clutch two out double to score the game-winning run in game one, but lost a heartbreaker on a wild pitch in game two as the Cru split a doubleheader with Louisiana College Saturday in Belton. UMHB is now 3-4 on the season following the split. Louisiana College moves to 3-1 on the season.
The Cru won game one 5-4 in eight innings on
Caitlin Bollier's two-out RBI double. UMHB grabbed a 2-0 lead on RBI fielder's choice grounders from
Hannah White and
Caitlin Wells in the bottom of the second. LC scored a run in the top of the third, but the Cru added a run on
Leanne Hinojosa's RBI single in the fourth. The Wildcats took a 4-3 lead with a three-run fifth before UMHB tied it again on
Camryn Bintz's RBI single in the bottom of that frame. It would stay scoreless into the bottom of the eight before Bollier doubled home Hinojosa, who barely beat a diving tag at the plate.
Rebekah Ragsdale tossed a complete-game 12-hitter for UMHB to even her record at 2-2. Hinojosa, Bollier and
Ashton Feight all had two hits apiece for the Cru.
Louisiana College took game two 3-2 with late game heroics of its own. The Wildcats grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the second before UMHB battled back to tie the game with a pair in the bottom of the fifth. Bollier doubled home the first run and
Dayton Kunz drew a bases loaded walk. LC scored the game winner in the top of the seventh on a two-out wild pitch.
Hannah White took the loss for UMHB to drop to 1-1. Wells had three hits and
Janie Neyland had two for UMHB.
The Cru will return to action with a trip to the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament in Irving next weekend. UMHB will play four games against ASC East Division programs on Friday and Saturday.
