Kerrville, TX— The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team closed out American Southwest Conference West Division play with mixed results as the Cru split a doubleheader with Schreiner University Saturday afternoon in Kerrville. UMHB won game one 5-0 before falling by that same 5-0 score in the second game. The Cru moves to 24-13 overall and 20-4 in ASC West Division play following the split. The Mountaineers move to 12-22 overall and 7-13 in the ASC on the year with the split.
The Cru took game one 5-0 behind another dominant pitching performance from
Rebekah Ragsdale.
Ashton Feight's RBI single in the top of the first gave UMHB a 1-0 lead.
Caitlin Wells singled home two more runs in the second to make it 3-0 Cru in the top of the second.
Chandler Henson singled home a run in the third and
Janie Neyland added an RBI double in the fourth for the Cru. Ragsdale was magnificent in the circle, allowing just one hit, a second-inning single. She struck out three and walked two while raising her record to 13-5 on the year.
Leanne Hinojosa was 3-3 for UMHB and Wells and Neyland added two hits apiece.
The Cru could not generate enough offense to overcome Schreiner's four-run fifth inning in a 5-0 game two loss. The Mountaineers scored one in the bottom of the first and then added four more in that fifth as Callie Caeser singled home two runs and Kayla Avirett doubled home two more. UMHB would not put more than one runner on base in any inning and finished with just five hits in the loss.
Kirstie Curry took the loss in the circle to drop to 1-1 on the season for the Cru.
The Cru will close out the regular season with a non-conference doubleheader at Houston-Victoria next Saturday. UMHB has already clinched a second straight ASC West Division title and will be a #1 seed and receive a first-round bye at the ASC Championship Tournament in Farmers Branch the following weekend.
