Victoria, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team outplayed NAIA's #6 team for most of the day, but the Cru could not overcome two tough innings and was swept in a non-conference doubleheader by Houston-Victoria Saturday afternoon in Victoria. UMHB fell 4-3 and 6-2 to drop to 24-15 on the year. The Jaguars improve to 32-6 on the season with the two victories.

The Cru jumped out to an early lead in game one but could not hold it in a 4-3 loss. UMHB pit all three of its runs on the board in the top of the second. Kaysie Creech singled home the first run and Chandler Henson added a two-run double to make it 3-0/ UHV answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Two runs scored on a fielding error, a squeeze play bunt single scored the tying run and Ashley Winegart doubled home what proved to be the game-winner. Rebekah Ragsdale took the loss to fall to 13-6 despite not allowing an earned run. She scattered five hits and struck out five. UMHB was held to four hits in the game.

The Jaguars took control of game two with a six-run fifth inning and then held off UMHB's comeback bid in a 6-2 decision. UHV bunched seven hits in the fifth inning to score those six runs to take the lead. The Cru cut it to 6-2 on Hannah White's RBI double and an RBI single from Ashton Feight in the top of the sixth, but that's as close as UMHB would get. The doubleheader closes out the regular season for the Cru. UMHB won its second consecutive American Southwest Conference West Division title and will return to action at the ASC Championship Tournament next weekend in Farmers Branch. The Cru is a #1 seed and receives a first-round bye in that tournament.
