Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team returns to action after a rare open week with an American Southwest Conference home showdown against Louisiana College this Saturday. The Cru and Wildcats will kick off at 1:00 PM in the first day game at Crusader Stadium with first place in the ASC on the line.
UMHB is 5-0 overall and has a 1-0 mark in American Southwest Conference play and is coming off the first scheduled midseason bye week for the Cru since the 1999 season. UMHB enters this weekend ranked #2 in the country by the American Football Coaches Association and #3 in the nation by D3football.com. The Wildcats are 4-1 overall on the year and have a 2-0 mark in conference play. Louisiana College enters Saturday's game tied for first place in the ASC with Mississippi College and the Wildcats are receiving votes in the AFCA Top 25 Poll.
"I've never been a fan of open weeks, but I think this one really came at a good time for us," Cru Head Coach
Pete Fredenburg said. "We had a chance to rest some players and let some guys heal. We also had the opportunity to really take a look at some of our younger players and see them in game situations and that was positive. I think our players came back refreshed and have worked hard this week and we know that we have a challenge ahead of us on Saturday."
The Cru leads the all-time series with Louisiana College 13-0 and swept two meetings from the Wildcats last season, including a 59-20 victory in the First Round of the NCAA Division III National Championships.
