Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team will tip off the 2013-14 season with a home, non-conference game this Saturday, November 16
th. The UMHB women will play host to Austin College for a 2:00 PM start in the season opener for both teams.
The Cru women return four starters and seven letter winners this season under second-year head coach
Lisa Curliss-Taylor this season. UMHB posted an 8-17 overall record and went 7-12 in American Southwest Conference play last year. The Cru also returned to the ASC Championship Tournament last season after a one-year absence. UMHB will welcome back three ASC All-Division selections from last year's team. Junior forward
Taylor Tucker was an All-West Division First Team pick, took ASC West Division Newcomer of the Year and was also voted to the West Division All-Defensive Team. Senior post
Jovana Miles was Second Team All-West Division and joined Tucker on the All-Defensive Team. Both of those players averaged double-doubles for the Cru last season. Sophomore guard
Kourtney Bevers was a West Division All-Freshman selection last year after averaging 7.1 points per game and adding 45 assists. Junior guard
Macy Moore is the other returning starter and three other letter winners are also back. The Cru will feature three incoming transfers and eight freshmen on the roster this fall.
UMHB will face an Austin College team that returns twelve letter winners and four starters this season. The Kangaroos went 12-15 last season and posted a 5-10 mark in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The two teams will be playing for the first time since the Cru posted a 63-52 victory over the Kangaroos during the 2007-08 season.
Following Saturday's season opener, the Cru will have two weeks off before returning to action. UMHB will resume play with a trip to the Trinity University Classic in San Antonio on November 30
th and December 1
st. The Cru will then open ASC play with a 5:30 PM home game against Sul Ross State on December 5
th.
