Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team will face a first-time opponent in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III National Championships for the second straight year when the Cru welcomes Rowan University to Crusader Stadium for a 12:00 PM kickoff this Saturday.
UMHB opened the 2013 postseason with a 35-7 victory over University of Redlands in a rematch of the season opener in last Saturday's First Round Game. Rowan University advanced to the Second Round with a dominating 24-0 win over Endicott College last Saturday.
The Cru is 11-0 overall on the season and won the American Southwest Conference Championship with a 6-0 league mark. UMHB is in the Second Round of the postseason for the tenth straight year and the Cru has a 22-11 all-time record in the postseason. Rowan is 9-2 overall and won the New Jersey Athletic Conference title with a 6-1 league record. The Profs are 31-14 all-time in the NCAA Division III National Championships and have five Stagg Bowl appearances and five NCAA Semifinals appearances on their resume.
"We know that they have a great tradition and they completely shut down Endicott last week," Cru Head Coach
Pete Fredenburg said. "We were proud of our effort against Redlands last week, but we need to have a better plan as coaches. There is a tremendous challenge ahead of us this week and our players need to prepare to give great effort against Rowan."
UMHB is facing the Profs for the first time, but the Cru has played Rowan's NJAC rival, Kean University, twice. The two teams have a pair of common opponents this season with the Cru and Profs both posting wins over Kean University and Wesley College. The winner of Saturday's game will advance to face the winner of the all-New York Second Round showdown between Hobart and St. John Fisher in the Quarterfinal Round of the playoffs on December 7
