San Antonio, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team dropped an 81-79 decision to Southwestern University Saturday afternoon on the campus of Trinity University. The loss drops the Cru to 0-2 on the season while the Pirates improve to 2-3.
 
The game started evenly before the Cru went on a 7-0 run to grab a 21-12 lead on the Pirates. UMHB led by as many as 11 points in the first half, holding a 45-36 lead at halftime. The Pirates used a 9-0 run halfway into the second half to cut UMHB's lead to just one point before UMHB pulled away again. Southwestern's eight unanswered points with just five minutes left in the game tied the match, before the Pirates went on a 5-0 run to gain the lead and secure the two-point victory.   

Alyssa Dean led five UMHB athletes in double-digits with 17 points. Jovana Miles, Macy Moore and Taylor Tucker each added 12 while Chantal Franco put up 11. Miles was the leading rebounder for the Cru with eights, while Dean and Kourtney Bevers each brought down seven. Alisha Mosley recorded five assists in the match and Chantal Franco added four steals. UMHB shot 47.1 percent on the game and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Chelsea Leeder led Southwestern with 20 points. Four other athletes recorded double digits. Annie Bourne brought down a game-high 15 rebounds. The Pirates outrebounded UMHB 44-41, shooting 37.7 percent on the game and 83.8 percent from the free-throw line.
 
The Cru will return to action tomorrow in a 4 p.m. match against Trinity University in San Antonio. UMHB will open ASC action on Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. match against Sul Ross State in Belton.
