Volleyball falls to ETBU in ASC Tournament Semifinals

Richardson, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team fell 3-1 to East Texas Baptist University Saturday afternoon in Richardson. The win improves the Tigers to 31-9 on the season while the Cru ends their season at 29-5.

UMHB grabbed an early 25-18 lead over the Tigers before ETBU responded with three consecutive 25-20, 25-20, 25-13 victories to grab the 3-1 win. Lauren Powell led the Cru with 15 kills while Abby Voskuil added 10. Kendall Pye led the Cru with 23 assists while Prather added 19. Defensively, Kendra Feldmann recorded a match-high 16 digs with Powell adding 14. Cheyenne Dowdey recorded six assists en route to a team-total 11 blocks. UMHB totaled 47 kills for a .119 hitting percentage. Powell was also named to the ASC Championship Tournament All-Tournament Team.

The Cru broke a single-season record for victories in a season with 29 (previous 22, 2012) this season. Powell led the Cru with 358 kills while Bianca Patterson added 283. Prather led the team with 811 assists with Pye adding 524 on the season. Prather also led the Cru with 42 service aces. Defensively, Feldmann led the Cru with 680 digs for the season for a 5.19 per set average while Dowdey's 180 total blocks broke the single-season record for blocks in a season (previous 143, Christi Baetz, 2001). UMHB also received votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 Poll for the first time in program history.

East Texas Baptist advanced to face Hardin-Simmons University in the ASC Championship match. The winner of that match will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships.
