Women's Basketball falls to Trinity 91-75

San Antonio, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team trailed for all but 22 seconds of the game as the Cru women fell to Trinity University 91-75 Sunday afternoon in San Antonio. The loss drops the UMHB women to 0-3 on the season. The Tigers improve to 6-1 on the year with the victory.

UMHB took an early 3-2 lead on Macy Moore's three-point play 25 seconds into the game, but Trinity answered with a 22-4 run to take a 24-7 lead with 14:02 left in the first half. The Cru would not get closer than eight points the rest of the way and trailed by as many as 19 points in the second half to a Trinity team that is receiving votes in the national Top 25 Polls.

Jonelle Smith came off the bench to lead UMHB with 17 points on 7-11 shooting and take Schlotzsky's Lotz Better Player of the Game honors. Bridjai Chaney added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Cru. Jovana Miles added 16 points and Alyssa Dean scored 11 for the Cru. UMHB shot 46 per cent from the field and out rebounded the Tigers 37-34 in the game. The Cru turned the ball over 29 times in the loss.

Hannah Coley led Trinity with 23 points and Murphy Burns pitched in 22 with both players hitting 3-7 from three-point range. The Tigers shot 53 per cent from the field to help overcome 28 turnovers.

The UMHB women will now return home to open American Southwest Conference play with a pair of game this week. The Cru will face Sul Ross State University for a 5:30 PM tip-off on Thursday before welcoming Howard Payne University to the Mayborn Campus Center on Saturday afternoon.
