Belton, Texas – For the second straight week, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team will face a first-time opponent when the Cru welcomes St. John Fisher to Crusader Stadium for a 12:00 PM kickoff in an NCAA Division III Quarterfinal Game this Saturday. The game will also mark the first time UMHB has played an opponent from the state of New York in the 16-year history of Cru football.
UMHB advanced to the Quarterfinals with a 59-8 victory over Rowan University in last Saturday's Second Round Game. The Cardinals advanced to the Quarterfinals with a dominating 27-6 win over Hobart College last Saturday.
The Cru is 12-0 overall on the season and won the American Southwest Conference Championship with a 6-0 league mark. UMHB is in the Quarterfinals of the postseason for the fourth straight year and the seventh time in the last eight year. The Cru has a 23-11 all-time record in the postseason. St. John Fisher is 10-2 overall and claimed an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships after finishing second in the Empire 8 Conference with a 5-2 league record. The Cardinals are 10-4 all-time in the NCAA Division III National Championships and are making their fourth National Quarterfinal appearance.
"It is always a challenge when you face someone for the very first time, but we are getting a crash course" Cru Head Coach
Pete Fredenburg said. "They have some big guys and some very talented skill players, too. They have a lot of offensive firepower so we know this game will be a test. We feel like we are making progress and continue to grow as a team and that will be important this week."
The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the NCAA Division III National Semifinals to face the winner of Saturday's Quarterfinal between Linfield College and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
