Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team dropped an 81-66 decision to Howard Payne University Saturday afternoon in Belton. The loss drops the Cru to 1-4 on the season and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

The game began evenly with an 8-8 tie before the Yellow Jackets went on a 14-4 run to grab a 22-14 lead. UMHB responded with an 18-10 run to even the game at 32 going into halftime. UMHB opened the second half with a 4-0 run before Howard Payne used a 13-0 run to grab a lead on the Cru. The Yellow Jackets held a steady lead for the remainder of the game, securing the 81-66 victory.

Taylor Tucker led the Cru with 28 points while Jovana Miles added 13 and Jonelle Smith put up nine. Tucker also led the Cru with 11 rebounds, followed by Smith and Kourtney Bevers with six each. UMHB totaled nine steals, led by Miles' three and 17 assists, led by Chantal Franco's five. The Cru shot 32.9 percent in the game and 76.5 percent from the free throw line.

Danyel Bradley led the Yellow Jackets with 27 points followed by Sarah Van Remmen's 13. Bradley's 10 and Kalin Hanna's seven rebounds helped Howard Payne to a team-total of 43. The Yellow Jackets totaled 12 steals, five blocks and 17 assists in the game. Howard Payne shot 46.3 percent from the floor and 21.4 percent from beyond the arc.

UMHB returns to action Saturday in a 1 p.m. match at Concordia University in Austin.
