Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team defeated the University of the Ozarks 79-66 for its fifth consecutive American Southwest Conference victory Saturday afternoon in Belton. The win improves the Cru to 7-6 on the season and 7-3 in ASC action while the Eagles fall to 3-9 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
Ozarks led the Cru for the first four minutes of competition before UMHB used a 5-0 run to grab the lead. The Cru led by as many as nine points late in the first half. The Eagles responded with three consecutive three-pointers to cut UMHB's halftime lead to just two points. UMHB used an 8-0 run halfway through the second half to grab a lead on the Eagles and did not trail again, finishing with a 13-point victory.
Taylor Tucker led four UMHB athletes in double digits with 21 points.
Alyssa Dean and
Jovana Miles each added 11 while
Macy Moore put up 10.
Alisha Mosley recorded eight assists in the match while Moore added six. Defensively for the Cru, Tucked recorded a team-high 11 rebounds while
Bridjai Chaney added eight. UMHB out-rebounded the Eagles 63-37, forcing 12 turnovers. The Cru shot 41 percent in the game and 57.6 percent from the free throw line.
Ashley Hipps led the Eagles with 18 points while Tamara Wilkett added 11. Kindra Davis was the leading rebounder for Ozarks with 12. Taylor Farmer recorded a match-high six blocked shots. The Eagles shot 32.8 percent in the game and 66.7 percent from the free throw line.
The Cru will return to action Thursday in a 5:30 p.m. match at the University of Texas at Dallas.
